Q1 Finals Week at Darden

So, everything I heard from the second-year students was a lie!  Finals week (last week) really was not easy.  Don’t get me wrong, the exams themselves weren’t that difficult, but they still required almost five hours hours of total focus for five straight days.  The one good thing about finals week is that my afternoons and evenings were free.  For really the first time in a while, I was able to spend some quality time (i.e. more than a hour here or a half-hour there) with my wife and son during the week.  It was also nice to kick back and watch a movie or some TV without having to worry about prepping for cases or meeting with my learning team.  Not to mention, it was wonderful to squeeze in a few hours on the golf course—I was pleasantly surprised to find that my game hasn’t completely deteriorated since Q1 began.  Even more welcome was the opportunity to catch up on some lost sleep that had mysteriously disappeared from my Q1 schedule.  I guess when it comes down to it, the five straight mornings of five-hour tests actually helped me to enjoy the afternoons and evenings (if you can believe that).  Why?  They basically left me brain-dead, with no desire to study or exert any mental energy until the next morning’s test.  All-in-all the exam experience wasn’t too bad, but it would have been nice to get a day or two off before jumping back into the classroom…. oh well, here we go with Q2!
